Each day hundreds of dogs and cats are left behind in shelters by owners who are certain the pets will be adopted. Few people realize how many pets are euthanized daily and even fewer realize how little time animals spend in shelters before they are put down.

Time in Shelter

The time that animals spend in shelters before being euthanized depends on the type of shelter the animal is in, the area where the shelter is located and the condition or behavior of the animal.

5-Day Stay
While it is only a recommendation, the Humane Society of the United States suggests that all pets be held in a shelter for at least five days.

Changing Rules
When caught in financial difficulties, many shelters are forced to decrease the time animals have before they are put down. Some money-tight shelters implement 3-day rules, euthanizing the animal on the fourth day of its shelter stay.

No-Kill Shelters
No-kill shelters keep animals indefinitely unless they are too ill to be treated or have an overly aggressive nature.

Save a Life
Time is limited for any animal in a shelter, unless the shelter is a no-kill one. If left unadopted, any animal will be put down eventually.

TCAP is a nonprofit, membership organization that serves to increase public awareness and understanding of issues affecting animal welfare, to act as an information clearinghouse for animal welfare organizations and to support animal shelters and animal groups.

They have Clinic locations in Denton, Fort Worth and Burleson and they provide low cost vaccinations and spay and neuter surgeries for both dogs and cats.

Save a Life Sunday! Sparkles and Snowball!

Sparkles and Snowball were left at the shelter together. Their owner was not able to keep these sweet and beautiful cats any more. They are not sure why they are here and not in a comfy home, it is a bit scary for them.

Sparkles is a gorgeous blue point Siamese boy. He has soft plush fur and lovely big blue eyes.Sparkles is very sweet , quiet and loving. he is a bit shy, but opens up quickly as soon as you love & pet him. Sparkles is so sweet and lovable boy who can't wait to have a safe and loving fuurever home soon!!

Snowball is a beautiful long hair Ivory boy with big gold eyes and a cute pink nose! He has long soft plush fur and loves to be petted. Snowball is gentle, quiet, lovable and is a bit shy, but opens up quickly as soon as you love and pet him. Sweet Snowball can't wait to have a safe and loving furrever home very soon!

We have MANY wonderful cats and kittens in need of a loving fur-ever home!


Our adoption fee is $80. All cats receive their first feline booster, a dose of worming medication and are micro chipped. Adoption fee includes a voucher for a rabies shot, spay / neuter at any TCAP location. All adopted pets are eligible for 1 month of shelter health care insurance.

I've been trying to match Caturday pictures with what's been going on in my life and as of late we've been super sick, going on a week now for Hubs and a little longer for me (but I think I'm almost over it) our furbabies have been wonderful nursemaids, and they've even cut down on running amuck a little...they've toned it down to walking amuck... Hopefully I'll be back up and running a lil better next week!
