Sales Tax Free Weekend THIS WEEKEND!

August 21 - 23, 2009

Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 21, 22 and 23 -the state's annual tax holiday.

As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt. A backpack is a pack with straps one wears on the back. The exemption during the sales tax holiday includes backpacks with wheels, provided they can also be worn on the back like a traditional backpack, and messenger bags.

The exemption does not include items that are reasonably defined as luggage, briefcases, athletic/duffle/gym bags, computer bags, purses or framed backpacks. Ten or fewer backpacks can be purchased tax-free at one time without providing an exemption certificate to the seller.

School Supplies - New in 2009!

The 81st Texas Legislature recently passed HB 1801 (2009) expanding the list of items qualifying for exemption from Texas state and local sales and use taxes during the annual sales tax holiday in August. Effective this year, in addition to clothes, footwear and some backpacks, Texas families also get a sales tax break on most school supplies priced at less than $100 purchased for use by a student in an elementary or secondary school.

The following is an all-inclusive list of qualifying school supplies (if priced less than $100):

OM NOM NOM or...Olive Garden's Never Ending Pasta Bowl is Back!

I'm sure it won't be too long before the TV airwaves are full with their O so Tempting commercials, but I wanted to be one of the first to report that YES Olive garden's Never ending pasta bowl is back!

It never fails that when this special comes around I usually drag the hubby kicking and screaming ( I seem to do that a lot ) and gourge myself silly on the yummy pasta and sausages.

For those unfamiliar with this pig out special, Olive Garden offers a selection of pastas (this year seven different kinds) and a selection of sauces (six different kinds this year) And the option of ordering never ending Sasauge or meatballs to add to your never ending pasta AS WELL AS the standard unlimited soup or salad and breadsticks.

Full Yet?

I usually don't eat all day and go there for an early dinner and THEN make sure to order another bowl of salad or soup after I finish my first and leave it sitting there until I'm finished with my meal, THEN ask for a to go box for it.

Olive Garden wait staff is usually great like this, so they wrap up my salad/soup and whatever left over pasta I may have ( I don't get too greedy, so I don't order a brand new bowl of pasta before I burst...I just take what leftovers I may have) And now I have enough to eat for lunch the next day!

Don't forget to leave a nice tip if they are nice enough to do this for you!

So for around $9 for a never ending pasta bowl, $11 if you add a meat, plus a nice 20 - 30% tip for wait staff you have the makings of possibly 2 great meals for just a little more than an extra value meal at McDonalds!

Free Chick-fil-a September 7th when you wear sports logo

And the Winner is...

And the lucky number this morning was #2...Hula Hooping Mom!

Congrats! I will be emailing you ASAP!

Thanks Again to General Mills, PepsiCo and MyBlogSpark for giving me this awesome opportunity!

Kroger double coupon up to $1 event August 15th

On Saturday August 15th Kroger will take .40 - $1.00 coupons and double them.
There will be no overage, so say if you have $1.50 product with a $1.00 coupon, only $1.50 will be taken off your bill.

I personally have not had very good luck getting Kroger to take internet coupons so your store may vary on what coupons they will accept.

I called my local Kroger and asked what their policy on accepting Internet coupons was and was told if it scans they'll take it, I also asked if Internet coupons could be used on saturday and was told I could try, but no promises....so I guess I'll see.

Go Here to check your weekly local ad to see if your store is participating.

Pick Your own?

I can't really remember where I first heard that there were farms where you could pick your produce. but it's been festering in my mind for a little while.

Today I finally puttered around google and came across http://www.pickyourown.org/ a nice little treasure trove of farm listings, how to can guides, and jam recipes.

Seems the closest one to me, that I can gather anyways, is Gnismer Farms off south Bowen Road in Arlington.

Unfortunately it seems to be in the middle of picking seasons, the next picking season doesn't start up until mid August to September.... but maybe that's a good thing, I'd prolly kill over in this heat.

This sounds like it would be a great, hopefully inexpensive, fun activity, especially in October when there are pumpkins to pick for Halloween.

I'm going to put this on a mental tack in my mind to try out as soon as picking season and family schedule allows!
